[1] It is difficult to compare features because propane retailers use a wide variety of terms and language to describe their products and services. For example, "Price Protection" typically is called a Price Cap, which establishes a maximum price charged to a customer for the season. Tank Rent similarly often requires a minimum annual usage. For example, Caywood Propane waives rental at 500 gallons of consumption, Liberty Propane waives rental at 801 gallons, and Crystal Flash's contract "reserves the right to impose a minimum usage fee in the event customer's usage falls below Crystal Flash usage standards." This table assumes 750 gallons of annual usage. "Free Delivery" means that there are no fees imposed based on a delivery. Competitors have been very creative in what they call these. Some call them "Hazmat Fees," "Fuel Recovery Fees" "Hazmat & Safety Compliance Fees," and in some less creative instances "Delivery Fees." "Free Tank Monitor App" means that a will-call customer with a company-owned tank is provided a monitor and access to a related app without additional charge. Excluded from this analysis are charges for additional fees and services such as installation fees, special delivery charges, service fees, pump-out charges and termination or tank pick-up fees. This table simply is intended to show basic, ongoing features of propane service.
